A suburban high school teacher is inspiring her community by taking on new challenges, even in the face of extreme adversity. “It's humbling to see just the amount of grace that she has, and kindness,” said Malinda Majoch, the principal at Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn.
Thousands Set to Arrive This Week for Fastpitch Softball World Series
More than 150 softball teams from across the Midwest will arrive in northwest Indiana to compete in the National Softball Association (NSA) Even & Odd North World Series – NW Indiana. Games will be played throughout the region at fields in Crown Point, Dyer, Schererville and LaPorte from July 16-21.
Janecke Earns Academic All-America Nod
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's ice hockey forward Tessa Janecke was named to the CSC Academic All-America First Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Janecke collects her first CSC Academic All-America honor following an excellent sophomore campaign on the ice and in the classroom where she accumulated a 3.62 GPA in her nutrition major.

The men’s 1500 free went to Aquajets Swim Team 17-year-old Jiarui Xue, who finished in 15:57.10. Xue, a Princeton recruit, has been quite a bit faster, holding a personal best of 15:38.14, which he swam at the NCSA Championships in March. Ozaukee Aquatics 14-year-old Grant Freeze had a fantastic swim for 4th in the mile, clocking a 16:13.24, which marks a new personal best by nearly 24 seconds.
67 Chargers Earn Academic All-Region 4 for Spring Semester
Sixty-seven Sandburg student-athletes earned Academic All-NJCAA Region 4 honors for the 2024 spring semester. Honorees had to achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours to earn the distinction. Among Sandburg’s recipients, 44 had a GPA of 3.50 or better. Nineteen Chargers had a perfect 4.0 GPA, and each Sandburg team was represented within that group of student-athletes with an unblemished GPA.
New pickleball courts open in Schultz Park
LANSING, Ill. (July 15, 2024) – Lansing pickleball players now have a second venue to call home. On Monday the Lan-Oak Park District announced the opening of new pickleball courts at Schultz Park, located at Schultz Dr. and Ada St. Four pickleball courts replace the single tennis court that was positioned near the southwest corner of the park.

LCM (50m) Results on MeetMobile (“2024 CZ North Section Summer Sectionals”) Day 3 of the 2024 Summer Sectionals meet in Westmont saw 15-year-old Rachel Ritter out of Sioux Falls Swim Team win the women’s 200 back in 2:15.74. The swim marked a personal best for the youngster, coming in under her previous best of 2:16.30. She was out fast, splitting 31.68 on the first 50, then split 34.90, 35.00, and 34.16 respectively the rest of the way.
Charity Golf Outing for The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn
The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is hosting a charity golf invitational at the Hickory Hills Country Club on Thursday, August 15. The board secretary for The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, Ian Chafee, spoke about the facility at 5100 Museum Drive. He said, “We are aligned with the state standards for education, and Our sweet spot is kids eight and under.” He added, “We focus mostly on little guys zero to three. It is a place where they can play with their parents and learn to socialize.”
