    After pursuit, Monona police arrest Waunakee convicted felon found with gun

    A pursuit into McFarland and Madison resulted in a crash and the arrest of a Waunakee man who reportedly was in possession of a firearm and narcotics for probation violation.

    The pursuit began on June 11 when a Monona officer was monitoring traffic on Stoughton Road at Broadway in the City of Monona, according to a report from the city of Monona Police Chief.

    Just before midnight, at 11:59 p.m., the officer observed a Toyota Camry driving past his location at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle then made an erratic lane change before running the red light at while speeding southbound on Stoughton Road at the Hwy. 12 ramp intersection.

    The officer initiated a traffic stop based on the reckless driving behavior, but the driver increased their speed, did not stop and engaged MOPD in a vehicle pursuit. Based on favorable conditions, including little to no traffic at this time of night, MOPD continued efforts to stop and apprehend the driver.

    The suspect continued to flee, traveling southbound on Hwy. 51 towards the Village of McFarland. The suspect then ran the red light at Terminal Drive before making an illegal u-turn, returning back towards Hwy. 12. The driver then traveled westbound along Hwy. 12 into Monona.

    A MOPD K9 team also joined the pursuit. MOPD radioed information regarding the pursuit to area law enforcement in an effort to coordinate the deployment of tire deflation devices in the direction of travel. In doing so, the suspect continued to drive westbound on Hwy. 12 when he attempted to exit onto Fish Hatchery Road. The driver failed to negotiate the turn and collided into a traffic barrier along the ramp, disabling their vehicle.

    The driver immediately exited the car and fled on foot. The MOPD Handler and officers gave multiple commands to stop at gunpoint while in chase; however, the suspect failed to comply and continued to run. K9 Jakko was deployed and apprehended the suspect in the back parking lot of a closed business after he refused to stop.

    The driver was was taken into custody, and paramedics were called onto the scene to tend to a bite wound to the leg. The suspect also had injuries to his face from glass fragments sustained as a result of the crash.

    According to Chief Brian Chaney's report, A loaded Glock pistol with an extended magazine was recovered along with a large quantity of illegal narcotics and cash. After MOPD conveyed the suspect to a local ER for a medical clearance, he was booked into the Dane County Jail.

    The crash into the guardrail occurred in the City of Madison, and Madison police responded.

    An MOPD Officer involved in the foot pursuit sustained a soft tissue injury to his thumb when navigating a downed chain link fence while chasing the suspect. The officer was treated and released from a local emergency room.

    K9 Jakko also sustained injuries and lacerations. He was taken to a 24 hour emergency veterinary clinic and was released. Both the officer and K9 Jakko are expected to recover from their injuries and return to duty soon.

    Police arrested Alonte T. Kincade, 22. Kincade was booked into jail on a probation Violation. He is currently serving a sentence on Community Supervision for Felony 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, two counts, Felony Substantial Battery and Felony Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent.

    MOPD will be referring charges for multiple offenses related to this incident to include: Felon in Possession of Firearm, Felony Attempted Eluding, Felony Resisting Arrest – Causing Soft Tissue Injury to an Officer, Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver Oxycontin, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, among other possible offenses.
