From the turning-normal-misbehavior-into-criminal-charges dept. For a long time we’ve been pointing out just how dangerous it is to turn over school discipline problems to cops. Sure, there are reasons schools might need a police response to an incident, but putting cops on staff has allowed administrators to abdicate their duties and turn incidents that could be resolved by educators and parents into arrests, criminal charges, and — as is always the case when cops are involved — acts of brutality.

Lewis Lemon Elementary unveils finished ‘Swimming Through History’ mural
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Area Arts Council unveils an Art For Impact initiative installment at Lewis Lemon Elementary. In April, Artexplorations owner Susan Burton worked with teachers and K-4 children at Lewis Lemon Elementary to make a 120-foot mural called “Swimming Through History.” The mural took two years to create and highlights important staples of the school.
