MONROE, La (KTVE/KARD) – Residents in Monroe, La showed their patriotism during the annual Fourth of July Children’s Parade at Triangle Park.

Each year, the event brings community members of all ages out to enjoy various activities and participate in the children’s parade. KTVE/KARD spoke to Leah Sumrall, a member of the Monroe Rotary Club and the organizer, for more details on the event.

It’s grown exponentially over the years and we try to bring something new every year. You can see the Acadian ambulance and the bearcat that the sheriff’s office brings. We have games for the kids and of course there’s watermelon snow cones.

The parade featured scooters, bicycles, tricycles, and more decked out in red, white, and blue that put on a glaring show for spectators. A mother and her patriotic entourage spoke to KTVE/KARD about why she attended the event.

It gives these girls a reason to smile and they love everything about it. The balloons, the floats, everything is so much fun for them.

    Laine Brister, Children’s Parade Participant

Although the event is centered around children, the parade is fun for all, especially first-time attendees. KTVE/KARD spoke to a first-time attendee, the University of Louisiana Monroe’s (ULM) Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Missy Bilderback, about her introduction to the event.

It’s just really awesome to see the community come together and put the work in for the kids to have a great event. So we were excited to come and just support them in that.
