MONROE, La (KTVE/KARD) – On Friday, July 19, 2024, CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company, experienced a glitch during a routine update, causing a nationwide outage.

Major airline companies such as American Airlines and Delta Airlines were forced to ground or delay flights due to technological glitches. The Monroe Regional Airport has only two airlines that fly out of Monroe, La, and both were affected. The director of the Monroe Regional Airport gave KTVE/KARD information about the disruption at the local airport.

Microsoft had a glitch this morning and it’s affecting not only airlines but alot of other things throughout the world. American has not had any major glitches here at the airport. They had a ten minute delay this morning, but all other flights are on schedule. Delta it has affected. They have canceled their, I think it, they’ve delayed their afternoon flight and they canceled their night flight.

The outage has also had a large effect on businesses and banks worldwide. Local Brookshire Grocery stores have been forced to close due to system issues. Brookshire’s Grocery Company released a statement regarding the matter.

Several of our stores have been impacted by the global IT issue and are temporarily closed. Our IT team is quickly working to resolve the technical issues at the impacted stores. We are hopeful that all stores will reopen soon, once the issues have been resolved. Our team has already been able to resolve several stores’ connection this morning so far. We regret the inconvenience this has caused our customers and are thankful for their patience and understanding.

The CEO of CrowdStrike took to the social media platform ‘X’ to speak out on the issue. A post from earlier reads as follows:

Today was not a security or cyber incident. Our customers remain fully protected. We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on. As noted earlier, the issue has been identified and a fix has been deployed. There was an issue with a Falcon content update for Windows Hosts. For the latest information that we will continuously update, please refer to the CrowdStrike website, my posts on LinkedIn, and my posts on X. I will continue to provide updates to our community and the industry as they become available.

    George Kurtz, CEO | CrowdStrike

Currently, businesses and airlines are continuing to recover from the CrowdStrike glitch. We will continue to have updates on air and online regarding the outage.
