    Monroe Invitational right around the corner

    PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) — Some of the best amateur golfers in the world are getting ready to descend on Monroe Golf Club for this year’s Monroe Invitational.

    Each week on the PGA tour, approximately 30% of the field played in the Monroe Invite during their amateur careers according to tournament officials. The event generally ranks top-20 in terms of strength of field.

    Some of the big names who have played in the event include Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson, who won the tournament in 2007.

    The first round is on Wednesday concluding with the fourth and final round on Saturday morning. The event is free and open to the public.

    “You can just walk in the door and walk in the fairways,” said Joe Merlin, the head professional at Monroe Golf Club. “You could be standing 20 yards from tomorrow’s Tiger Woods. You may not even know it at the time.”
