MONROE (WWJ) A Monroe High School cheer coach has resigned, while on administrative leave, amid “allegations of inappropriate behavior with a minor,” the school district said in a statement.

In the statement on Facebook ; Monroe Public Schools said the rumors began last fall. An investigation by the school district and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office found “no credible evidence to support the rumors,” the school district said.

Child Protective Services and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office launched a second investigation when the rumors resurfaced later in the year; and again, found nothing, the school said.

“On June 7th, Monroe High School administration was provided with evidence that the rumors could be true. The Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted and the coach was placed on administrative leave,” the statement read.

The school district has not released the gender of the coach or the minor.

The other cheer coach has also resigned. School officials said the cheer positions were “posted immediately” and “filled promptly”—adding that tryouts for the cheerleading team will begin soon.

“Student well-being is a priority for our district and concerns of this nature are taken very seriously…” Superintendent Andrew Shaw said in the statement.

He also asked the community to show patience while law enforcement investigates.

“People want to have all the information before the investigation is complete and will jump to conclusions without all the facts or information,” he said.

The school said no more information will be released “due to the sensitive circumstances of the situation involving a minor.”

Once the investigation is complete; the Sheriff’s Office will turn it over to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office to review charges, according to the school.
