Gill, MA Pursuing New Composting Program
A new community composting plan was approved by the Selectboard, beginning the process of getting a weekly compost collection program off the ground for Gill residents as a prior food waste pickup system is phased out. A “composting coop” will be located near the electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot of the Riverside Municipal Building on Route 2. Residents who wish to use the site to drop off 5-gallon pails of food waste can sign up to receive a padlock code to access the enclosure once sign-up becomes available. The placement of the composting coop away from homes, with wood shavings placed on the ground, is designed to alleviate odor from the food waste.
Amherst Regional track project heads to bid, though money still short
AMHERST — While a preferred $3.36 million overhaul of the track and field at Amherst Regional High School remains $932,175 short of what is needed to begin the work, the Regional School Committee is supporting putting the project out to bid, with much of the funding gap to be made up by adding certain aspects at a later time.

Since then, the Jones Trustees have abandoned nearly all of the environmental and sustainability features (see also here and here) that they had once promised, offering the consolation that the current plan will still produce a “net-zero ready building”, which as far as we can see, involves only replacing the oil-fired boiler with air-sourced heat pumps, something that can be part of a repair-only plan as well.
