Severe teacher shortage hits Paterson schools just before new academic year
Paterson's school district is coping with more than 150 vacant jobs as the first day of classes looms.New Jersey's third-largest city is taking steps to minimize any disruption the shortage would have.The superintendent, Dr. Laurie W. Beginning Sunday in Hoboken, plastic utensils won't be in delivery bags - unless customers ask for them.The City Council passed the legislation known as 'Skip the Stuff' back in June. It makes it illegal to slip plastic forks or spoons into a takeout bag unless the customer specifically asks for utensils.Hoboken will issue a warning to business that do not comply with the law. 15-year-old Harrison girl missing since Wednesday, last seen in Journal Square
A 15-year-old Harrison girl has been missing since Wednesday and was last seen at the Journal Square Transportation Center in Jersey City, authorities said. “The Harrison Police Department is actively investigating a missing juvenile and is requesting assistance from the public. Amanda Caldeira was reported missing by her mother, [Wednesday] around 2:30PM,” the Harrison PD wrote on Facebook.
Vandalism Forces Closure of Pennington Park Soccer Field, Disrupting Local Leagues
PATERSON, NJ - The soccer field at Pennington Park was closed Saturday after being vandalized, just as local youth leagues were preparing for the new season. A large burn mark was discovered at the midfield line of the recently renovated turf, forcing the school, youth, and adult leagues that use the field to relocate. Mayor Andre Sayegh confirmed that the Paterson Fire Department responded to the incident early Saturday morning, between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. The field, which underwent an approximate $560,000 renovation in 2023, is now locked with a chain to prevent further damage.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER “Pennington Park is a point of pride,” Sayegh told TAPinto Paterson. “We renovated the baseball field, built a fitness zone, and just cut the ribbon on a new playground.
