Driver involved in Bay Bridge crash jumps off span into San Francisco Bay
A person involved in a crash on the Bay Bridge Thursday afternoon jumped into the bay after running from the crash scene and was eventually rescued by the Coast Guard, authorities said.A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told CBS News Bay Area said dispatchers were alerted at about 2:17 p.m. about a crash involving two vehicles heading east on the eastern span of the bridge.Spokesperson Mark Andrews said one of the vehicles rolled over in the collision and the male driver of that vehicle climbed out and began running east on the north shoulder just east of the suspension portion of the span east of Treasure Island.The person then jumped over the railing and into the water and was observed swimming, Andrews said. The Coast Guard was dispatched and the person was rescued. His condition was not immediately known.The second driver involved in the crash was not hurt and there were no other passengers in either car, Andrews said. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately known.The crash temporarily blocked the two left lanes while the other three lanes remained open.

FREMONT, Calif. (TCN) -- A 42-year-old father who reportedly took his own life has been identified as a suspect in the death of his 3-year-old daughter. According to the Fremont Police Department, Ellie Lorenzo’s mother reported her daughter missing on July 12. San Francisco police commission votes to expand powers for chasing suspects
A change in the San Francisco Police Department's chase policy.The city's civilian police commission voted 5-2 to adopt a revised policy, expanding the powers of police officers to chase suspects in their cars. It also OKs the use of drones to track wanted vehicles.Voters passed Prop E in March, relaxing certain police policies. This is one of them.Tensions have been brewing between commissioners about the policy's reporting requirement, which mandates annual stats from chases and on who's arrested.RELATED: SF police commission considering expanding rules for car chases on SF streets"That would be a direction to the chief of police. But it would not be because Prop E requires it, and it is not required by law," said Alicia Cabrera with the SF Attorney's office while in session.Police Commissioner Debra Walker: "So, should it be in the DGO? (Department General Orders)"Cabrera: "That I leave up to the commission."With that 5-2 vote by the commission, the answer was yes.The policy now needs approval from the police union, which has indicated support.
