Kitten saved from busy highway gets new home with officer who rescued her

MONTEREY, Calif. (WJW) — Proving not everything is awful, a kitten rescued from a busy California highway has now been adopted by the officer who helped bring her to safety.

In mid-June, an officer was called to a patch of coastal Highway 1 in Monterey for reports a “scared kitten” was darting throughout the lanes, according to the SPCA Monterey County.

In order to keep the cat from being run over, California Highway Patrol officer Ryan Moore told the nonprofit humane society he shut down traffic.

The kitten then jumped into the wheel-well of a Prius that was pulled over on the side of the road, and proceeded to move up into the fuel tank.

That’s when Moore called SPCA Monterey County for reinforcements and they sent out Investigations Supervisor Jacob Duarte.

They rescue team was able to slowly move the car to a parking lot where they worked together for more than two hours to get the small furball out of the vehicle.

Once taken to the humane society, the cat was dubbed Chippy, in honor of the CHP team who helped in the incident. Chippy was given a thorough exam and was adopted by Moore and his family (as seen in the video at the top of the story).
