MONTGOMERY – It was an absolutely dominant performance for the North All-Stars on the pitch, and Shelby County’s finest were at the forefront of the victory.

The North All-Stars defeated the South All-Stars 4-1 in the girls soccer North-South All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17 at Montgomery’s Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex with four Shelby County players leading the charge.

Briarwood Christian’s Taylor Leib, Spain Park’s Addy Soehn, Pelham’s Lacey Lambert and Westminster OM’s Lailie Parvin represented the county among the best rising seniors from the northern region of the state as they squared off against their southern classmates.

Leib got back to her scoring ways as the reigning Shelby County Golden Boot winner and led a big start for the North with a ninth-minute opening goal, giving her team a 1-0 lead.

While the South equalized just over a minute later with a goal from Ameera Edwards, Leib helped the North respond shortly after.

Leib linked up with one of the players she shared the pitch with in the Class 6A state championship game, Mountain Brook’s Langston Lilly, to assist her goal in the 13th minute and retake the 2-1 lead. Leib would go on to win the North MVP award for her two-point night.

The North held onto the lead for the rest of the match, but Soehn made sure that they walked away with the win with a pair of goals in the second half.

Soehn scored shortly after halftime with a goal in the 41st minute to increase the lead to two off her unassisted effort.

Then, with just 32 seconds remaining, she secured her brace with a 79th-minute goal, also unassisted, to seal the 4-1 victory for the North while leading both teams in scoring.

Leib and Soehn also led the North in shots on goal, with Leib offering up seven shots on goal and Soehn had six shots on goal as both players featured in 68 minutes of game time.

In addition, Lambert and Parvin each had 40 minutes of game time. Parvin featured in the field after starting the match while Evelyn Hurst remained in goal for the entire 80 minutes.

The North had a big offensive day overall, putting up 16 shots in each half for 32 shots total, outshooting the South’s total of 13 shots. Five of the South’s shots were saved by Hirst while the Southern goalkeeper Elise Vial had 19 saves against four goals allowed.

The North is now 19-3-1 all-time in the girls soccer North-South series.
