Cain to run in honor of Jackman
Seven years have passed since Conner Cain lost his best friend, Sam Jackman, to leukemia. To honor Jackman, Cain will participate in the St. Jude Canton to Peoria Run on Saturday. The annual charity event is a 33.3-mile run from Canton, Illinois to Peoria, Illinois. It is one of several community running events that are part of the St. Jude Runs campaign. Money raised will help support families of children fighting cancer at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Chamber seeks award nominations
Every year, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce recognizes members who have made outstanding achievements and contributions in the community. Award recipients are businesses, non-profits and individuals who make up the local business community. Categories for nominations are small business, large business, entrepreneur, community organization, woman of the year, champion of change and rising star: young professional.
Local businesses plan Back to School Bash
Free backpacks and school supplies will be distributed 3-6 p.m. July 28 at Pike Place in downtown Crawfordsville. Benchmark Family Services, All State Insurance, Hoosier Heartland State Bank and FC Tucker will host this Back to School Bash. The event will have many activities and resources for families to enjoy including a touch-a-truck, food trucks, DJ entertainment provided by Ben Gregory and multiple community vendors. These community vendors are all based in youth care and services to provide a hub of information for parents and guardians. Some of the vendors this year include the Youth Service Bureau, Head Start, Kids Closet and more.

Chamber celebrates opening of Bearded Comics
The Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Bearded Comics & Collectibles. It is a locally owned comic book and nerd store specializing in monthly comic books, with thousands of back issues, hundreds of key issues, and many graded comics. Bearded Comics also offers gaming items, vintage toys and nerd craft.
