Authorities are prepared to ensure the safety of a crowd estimated to be as large as 40,000 people during Delano’s 4th of July fireworks show, which is just days away. Big Lake Police Department was on hand Tues., June 25, and the first order of buisness was the hiring of Officer Julie Hawkins. For Hawkins, it was a family affair. In addition to the many officers who were present, Hawkins’ family was present – Grandma Barb, Grandpa Bob, Mother Becky and father John, and her two brothers Corey and Justin. Mayor Paul Knier administered the Oath of Office and Hawkins’ mother, Becky Nielsen, had the honor of pinning on her badge.
