    30 YEARS AGO: JUNE 23, 1994

    • Monticello drivers were preparing to become part of highway research with the opening of MnROAD imminent.

    • City Hall received a proposal for a senior housing development next to the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital.

    • The move of Fulfillment Systems Inc. from Big Lake to St. Cloud was going to hurt revenues at the Monticello Post Office, which processed the promotional items mailed by the fulfillment company.

    • Deonna Oswowski-Kruse and Nate Lee returned from participating in Girls State and Boys State, respectively, a program sponsored by the American Legion and auxiliary.

    • Former teacher and senior citizen advocate Marie Peterson died June 14 at the age of 96. She was known locally as “The Hug Lady.”

    • AD: The Skillet Restaurant in the Monticello Mall held a grand opening

    • At Monticello Theater: “City Slickers II,” “Maverick,” “Wyatt Earp.”

    15 YEARS AGO: JUNE 11, 2009

    • The City of Otsego announced it would try to talk out differences with Monticello-Big Lake Hospital. The two were in a heated dispute over taxes paid for hospital services.

    • The Minnesota Supreme Court announced it would not hear a case filed by TDS against the City of Monticello over the installation of a fiber optic network.

    • A sculpture featuring an otter on a bike was dedicated in Otter Creek Park to honor developer John Komarek.

    • Trey Thompson, 12, of Monticello, got to spend a day with Vikings runningback Adrian Peterson at football camp.

    • Advertisements: Duck adoptions were being taken at Cub Foods and River City Extreme.

    • At Monticello Theater: “Year 1” and “Transformers”
