    30 YEARS AGO: JULY 14, 1994

    • The Monticello-Big Lake Hospital Board received a report that the hospital would run in the black in the following year.

    • Wright County Commissioner Ken Jude joined the race for the Minnesota Senate seat held by the retiring Betty Adkins.

    • The MnROAD road research center on Interstate 94 between Albertville and Monticello opened.

    • The Monticello High School Fabulous 40s reunion was held at the Monticello VFW and Ellison Park.

    • Randy Havel of Monticello organized the participation of 12 Monticello motorcyclists who rode more than 3,600 miles to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

    • Paul and Don Warner opened a Champion Auto store in the former location of Little Mountain Billiards.

    • The Monticello High School Marching Band earned top honors at Moorhead and Detroit Lakes. • ADS: Ginnie Nordvik won an emerald diamond dinner ring from Loch Jewelers during their 45th anniversary celebration. Hawks Bar and Grill hosted an outdoor sumo wrestling tournament

    • At the Monticello Theater: “The Lion King,” “True Lies,” “North” and “Speed.”

    15 YEARS AGO: JULY 16, 2009

    • The city broke ground on Fiber Net, the fiber optic project created by Monticello to bring new technology to an underserved region with high-speed internet service.

    • The Monticello Marching Band wrapped up its performance year by marching at ValleyFair.

    • St. Benedict’s Senior Community was presented with a national award for the quality of its health care.

    • Chris and Rich Schyma’s five boys were all involved in the family farm business.

    • ADS: Loch Jewelers was celebrating 60 years in business. Classique Jewelry was paying cash for old jewelry. The Monticello Strings was performing in concert in the middle school auditorium.

    • On the Monster Screen at the Monticello Theater: “Harry Potter”
