MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An eastern North Carolina man was killed after being struck by a tractor-trailer in Mooresville early Wednesday morning, state troopers say.

According the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. June 26 near Interstate 77 South Exit 36 (N.C. 150). That’s where a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling south on I-77 and struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

Troopers say the pedestrian, 63-year-old Calvin May of Greenville, was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was not lighted. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Meiko Madera, 26, of Killeen, Texas, was not injured.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors. The roadway was partially closed in the area for several hours. No charges will be filed.
