    Lexington man charged with attempted murder in Morehead

    MOREHEAD, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The Morehead Police Department arrested a Lexington man after a shooting early Wednesday.

    According to Morehead police, officers responded to the shooting around 1 a.m. at the Rodburn Hollow Apartments on Rodburn Hollow Road and found a car that had been shot multiple times. The shooter reportedly ran from the scene toward Daniel Boone National Forest.

    Authorities said a perimeter was quickly set up with the help of the MPD Special Response Team, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morehead State University Police Department. Around 6 a.m., 22-year-old Dontae Duff was located and arrested soon after.

    According to an arrest citation, Duff told detectives that his friend’s girlfriend was hit by a car, and he started shooting at the man driving the car in retaliation. After running into the woods, Duff reportedly said he threw the gun over a cliff.

    Duff was arrested and charged with:

    • Attempted murder
    • First-degree wanton endangerment (two counts)
    • Tampering with physical evidence
    • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon

    Court records show that the bond for Duff was set at $50,000.
