Evansville Retailer to Close After 60 Years in Business
Paul’s Menswear launched a retirement sale last month, with plans to close doors after over 60 years on the west side of Evansville. While I never personally purchased a suit from Paul’s Menswear, I can certainly appreciate the time that goes into getting a suit or pants tailored. I purchased my first suit in December 2019 when I started going on job interviews after college. Buying my first suit around that time was, to me, a symbol of accomplishment, and it was a great experience. I would imagine many in the Evansville area have similar stories about shopping at Paul’s Menswear.

Fun news from Madisonville, Kentucky. At the end of next month, the city will host, for the first time ever, a hot air balloon show called Madisonville Illuminated. The event is reminiscent of a balloon festival that used to be held at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in Owensboro. For years, as part of the annual Dazzling Daylily Festival, the Botanical Garden also showcased hot air balloons with Balloons Over the Garden. There were many on display and floating above the property. They even offered tethered rides above the gardens, but also rides that launched from the grounds and flew across parts of Owensboro.

When brothers and pastors Henry T. and Robert T. Anderson migrated to Christian County in about 1837 and 1839, respectively, the county was just moving out of its frontier beginnings and quickly emerging as a center of business in an agrarian and increasingly slaveholding area. By the time New York City author Eve M. Kahn followed their trail and visited the same area in June 2024, it would have been completely unrecognizable to the brothers.
