    Pilot flown to hospital after ultralight glider plane crashes in Burke County

    BURKE COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A pilot from Morganton has been hospitalized following a small plane crash Monday morning in Burke County, NC State Highway Patrol said.

    The accident happened around 9:10 a.m. Monday, July 1, on Mountain Shadows Drive.

    Troopers said after departing from a private airfield, an ultralight glider struck several trees and crash-landed into the woods.

    The pilot, identified as Christopher Ryan Short, 45, of Morganton, was flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville with non-life-threatening injuries, Highway Patrol said.

    The scene has been secured.

    The cause of the small plane crash remains under investigation by NC State Highway Patrol.
