    West Virginia athletes to look for in the Paris Olympics

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — There are a handful of athletes with connections to West Virginia that will be competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in France.

    Mary Tucker – USA Rifle

    Although originally from Florida, Mary Tucker was a collegiate athlete for West Virginia University before she graduated earlier this year. France 2024 is her second Olympics; she won a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 10m air rifle mixed team event in 2021. In Paris, she will compete in the Women’s Air and Smallbore Rifle events. She has already said that she is shooting for gold this year , and she’s on the right track; she won a gold medal last year for Team USA at the 2023 ISSF World Championships .

    Tucker competes at the Olympics on July 28 in the air rifle qualifying round and on the 29th if she makes the final.

    Ivan Puskovitch – USA Open Water

    Puskovitch is a member of the WVU men’s swimming team, although he is originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania. He placed 14th in the men’s 10km at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Qatar back in February , qualifying him for the Team USA’s Open Water National Team for the Paris Olympics. He was the highest qualifying North American male in the event and one of only 19 qualifiers.

    Puskovitch will compete in the 10km marathon swimming race on Friday, Aug. 9.

    Ceili McCabe – Canada Track

    WVU’s Ceili McCabe placed first in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Canadian Olympic Track and Field Trials last week , punching her ticket to the Paris Olympic Games. McCabe, an All-American and multiple-time NCAA champion for WVU, is also the Canadian record holder in the steeplechase .

    In Paris, round one of the steeplechase will be on Tuesday, Aug. 6, with the final on Aug. 8.
