    WVU Police Department adds new bomb detection K-9

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Chuck, a yellow Labrador retriever trained in explosives detection, is the newest member of the West Virginia University Police Department (UPD).

    K-9 Chuck and his handler Officer Ethan Stepp will check out venues on WVU’s campus before big events, including the Coliseum and Milan Puskar Stadium before basketball and football games, according to a news release .

    According to UPD Chief Sherry St. Claire, students and other community members are welcome to “say hi” to K-9 Chuck if they see him on campus.

    He is almost a year-and-a-half old.

    “Explosives detection K-9s are a critical part of our department and help protect our community in so many ways,” St. Clair said. “We are excited to have Chuck on our team.”

    West Virginia University has had at least one bomb threat in the past year that required evacuation , but no evidence of an actual bomb was found.
