    Monongalia County Democratic Party hosts ‘Meet the Candidate’ potluck

    CORE, W.Va. (WBOY) — On Thursday, “ Mon Dems ” hosted a Meet the Candidate luncheon at Mason-Dixon Park that welcomed local and state candidates as well as Monongalia County community members.

    With the changes that have taken place within the Democratic Party before the upcoming election, local party members felt that meeting in this way was the best way to connect with voters.

    Aside from bringing their covered dishes, candidates also spoke about their platform and made connections with others throughout the event.

    12 News spoke with Cal Carlson, Chair of the Mon County Democratic Executive Committee, on the importance of hosting a gathering like this.

    “We have a super important election in November. We have a lot of seats at stake, we have a lot at stake overall nationwide and all the way down here in the state of West Virginia and I think it’s just really important that we get people out to vote and we get people active and involved, not just in the communities but at the ballot box,” said Carlson.

    This event is part of a series as the Mon Dems plan to travel to various places throughout the county to have greater outreach for those within the party. You can find the remaining schedule below:

    • Thursday, Aug. 15, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brookhaven Community Center (506 Brookhaven Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508)
    • Thursday, Sept. 12, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Krepps Park Pavilion
    • Thursday, Sept. 26, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Marilla Park Pavilion
    • Thursday, Oct. 17th, 6 to 9 p.m. at 123 Pleasant Street
