Batesville Junior High Volleyball Faces Greensburg
The 7th grade volleyball team opened their season with a win vs Greensburg. They had a slow start with a score of 11-17. Then Zoey Mathews served 7 straight points to take the lead. The teams battled back & forth & the Bulldogs won 28-26. The team fell behind in game 2 but also came back to take the lead. Reece Richey served 12 points including 7 aces in this game to earn the win 25-19. Also earning service points were Zoey Mathews with 9 points, Caroline Weideman and Ella Peetz each earned 3 points and Nya Moon earned 1 point. In the front line Peetz had 3 kills, Elsie Koehne, Weideman, and Richey all had 1 kill. In the back row Harper Wagner, Brielle Maple, Allana Herbert, and Adalyn Placke had solid passing.

Batesville Middle School Cross Country Participates in 3-team Meet
The BMS cross country season kicked off Monday night with a three-way meet against St. Mary’s Greensburg and Columbus Christian. Girls results – The ladies stepped to the line first and were led by Ava and Elia Wade. Ava placed first overall with Elia following in second place. Other members of the varsity team included Bailey Feldman who placed 5th, followed by Sydney Britton in 7th, Ana Shane in 8th, Emmalynn Allgeier in 9th, and Audrey Dieckmann in 10th. The Lady Dogs scored only 23 points to take home the win while St. Mary’s scored 40 for second place and Columbus Christian had 59 points in 3rd.

Batesville shut out Milan in boys’ tennis 5-0 Tuesday evening on the Indians’ home court. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the season. A unique girls’ golf match is coming up next month. Milan will host a three-way match on September 9 at 4:30 against South Dearborn and Lawrenceburg, and it will be three generations of coaches from the same family battling it out. Milan is coached by Michelle Hosmer; her mother – Jeanne Kinnett – is the South Dearborn coach, and Hosmer’s daughter Courtney Monahan coaches the Lawrenceburg team.
Greensburg Cross Country Opens Season
The Greensburg Cross-Country teams had their first race of 2024 season Tuesday evening.Hauser High School hosted their third annual Hokum Karem. For this race, athletes run alternating mile repeats for a total of six miles. In the girls’ competition, Tori Gauck and Alaina Bedel led for the entire race recording a total time of 40:53 for the win. Senior Brooke Welsh and sophomore Alli Duncan paired up to run 48:06 and earned fifth place. Allison Kunze and Avonlee Bohall placed seventh in 59:18. In the boys’ competition, Hauser’s Nolan Dailey and Adrean Tungate won in a time of 32:06. The Greensburg tandem of Dante Hess and Quinton Walker finished fourth in 33:53. The next Pirate team was Chase Tekulve and Xavier Cassis. They ran 35:42 for sixth place overall. Henry Corya and Luke Dwenger paired up to run 37:39 and placed 12th. Xavier Wade and Conner Bedel were 13th in 37:39. Brayden Emery and Ethan Clifford took 14th in a time of 40:17. The Pirates return to action on Thursday evening when they host North Decatur, South Decatur, and Batesville. The girls’ race is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Batesville Middle School girls’ cross country won a three-way meet Monday against St. Mary’s (Greensburg) and Columbus Christian. The Bulldogs scored 23 points, St. Mary’s was 2nd with 28, and Columbus Christian had 59 points. In the boys’ race, it was the St. Mary’s Knights in first place with 27 points, Batesville one point behind at 28, and Columbus Christian came in 3rd with 59 points.
Greensburg Boys Tennis defeated by New Palestine
The Greensburg Pirates boys tennis team opened up their season on Monday against the New Palestine Dragons, full recap below. The Greensburg boys tennis team fell 5-0 to visiting New Palestine Monday night. In No. 1 singles, Mason McNulty was defeated 0-6, 2-6. In No. 2 singles, Dannie Fisse fell 1-6, 4-6. In No. 3 singles, Brody Sanders lost 0-6, 0-6. In doubles action, Jake Duerstock and Reece Beaver lost 2-6, 1-6. In No. 2 doubles, Reece Chapman and Wade Schutte lost 1-6, 4-6. The Pirates return to the court Wednesday night at Rushville.
South Decatur Volleyball Battles for Win vs. Knightstown
The South Decatur Lady Cougars battled with Knightstown Monday night, claiming the match 3-1. The Cougars “had a slow start with this full moon we are battling, but a strong finish. The girls played hard and picked up the pace when we needed it the most. This team keeps on surprising me with every game they play. The Junior Varsity also had a great win tonight! Greensburg Girls Soccer Traveled to Rising Sun
Senior Genevieve Smith scored her second consecutive hat trick in as many games in girls soccer’s 5-0 road win against Rising Sun Tuesday night. Sophomore Kadence Rich chipped in two goals of her own. Both players assisted on each other’s goals while senior Madisyn Morlan added an assist. Junior goalkeeper Madeline Shrader turned away all six shots she faced. The Pirates have allowed one goal through two games thanks in part to the defense of Emma McQueen, Jailyn Thorton, Lilly Acra, and Rachel Lipps. The Pirates (2-0) are back on the pitch Saturday at Union County as part of a boys/girls doubleheader. The girls game kicks off at noon.
Raiders run at Moores Hill
South Ripley cross country made a short trip to Moores Hill on Saturday to open its season, running in the annual Moores Hill Early Bird Invitational. The Raiders competed but did not have enough runners in both the boys and girls races to qualify for a team score. South Ripley had only a combined four runners but the program is actively looking for more to add to the roster.
