    By Staff Report,

Lucas Tyler Nickaboine, 33, Onamia, was charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of third-degree burglary.

The charge stems from a March 16 incident, when the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary of a shed on a property located on 400th Avenue in Morrison County. A deputy met with the property owners who reported that an unknown suspect broke into their shed on March 16. There are photographs from a game camera showing the suspect on the property at that date. The deputy looked at the shed and observed pry marks by the door. The property owners reported that they were missing various tools and other items valued at over $1,500. In processing the scene, the deputy located a shoe print that was left on a screen that apparently came from the suspect breaking into the shed. In addition, there were items left behind that were swabbed for DNA, according to the report.

Following further investigation, a sergeant of the Sheriff’s Office identified Nickaboine as a suspect. It was discovered that several items stolen from the victims’ shed were pawned by Nickaboine at a pawn shop in Princeton, per the report. The sergeant learned that Nickaboine was in the Mille Lacs County Jail.

According to the report, the sergeant obtained a search warrant for a sample of Nickaboine’s DNA to compare to the items that were left behind in the shed by the suspect. In addition, the warrant allowed for the collection of Nickaboine’s shoes.

The warrant was executed at the Mille Lacs County Jail. A deputy obtained a DNA sample from Nickaboine and seized his shoes. The sergeant later compared the tread on the shoes, and they were an exact match to the shoe prints that were left at the crime scene, according to the report.

If convicted on the felony charge, Nickaboine faces up to five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.
