    Pierz City Council Briefs

    On Monday, April 8, the Pierz City Council:

    • Approved a $600 donation to the Pierz Legion Park Board to fund billboards for the Hellie Field, used for baseball games. Of the total donation amount, $300 will be taken from the Pierz donation budget and $300 will be taken from the Pierz Golf Course budget;

    • Awarded $540,882 to Minnesota Power for its scope of work for electric utility services for an upcoming Pierz 2024 road project;

    • Awarded $8,932 to Mike Schaefer Sealcoating for the fixing of street potholes;

    • Approved a construction agreement between Pierz and Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. to award the consultant $246,500 for 2024 street and utility improvements;

    • Accepted $850 in donations to put toward planting new trees in the Pierz Golf Course to replace dead and unsightly trees. A total of $750 was donated by the Pierz Commercial Area Club, $50 was donated by Mayor John Perleberg and $50 was donated by Council Member Gary Berg;

    • Approved a motion to allow city staff members to solicit quotes for testing firms related to the 2024 street and utility improvements and award the amount to the lowest quote; and

    • Hired a grounds crew member for the Pierz Golf Course at $17 per hour, with the possibility of raising pay up to $18.50 per hour depending on performance after eight weeks of work.

    The next meeting of the Pierz City Council is Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers.
