Tonight's Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Excessive Heat Warning Includes Morristown Area

MORRISTOWN, NJ - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Morris County until 8pm, Wednesday July 17, according to the National Weather Service.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm, stated the weather authority. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall.

Tonight there may be showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 71. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

An excessive heat warning has also been issued until Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 8:00 PM.

Dangerously hot conditions with a heat index value of up to 106 are expected.  The heat warning  applies to Morris, Warren and Hunterdon Counties, as well as in Pennsylvania, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Upper Bucks, Western Chester and Western Montgomery counties. The National Weather service notes the impacts for heat related illness increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

The public is reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay indoors in an air-conditioned room, stay out of th sun and check on neighbors and relatives. Children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles.
