Parents of U of I murder victim share concerns about people profiting off their tragedy

"I don't think people realize that... this is real. You know, this is not a movie."

The parents of Kaylee Goncalves, one of the four University of Idaho students who were murdered in an off-campus home, wish that the night of November 13, 2022 wasn't their reality.

Kristi Goncalves said people consistently speculating what happened during that unimaginable night or spreading rumors online, reopens wounds that the family is trying to heal.

Just days ago, a new book was published addressing possible theories regarding the murder suspect, the victims and all the events that could be connected to the murders.

Kristi said it's things like this that make it a constant struggle to maintain motivation after such a tragic loss.

"It's just horrible. It's horrible. It's sickening. And some of that stuff... it just really could destroy my day," said Kristi.

Kristi said having a trial date and creating an 'internal countdown' to the June 2025 trial date is something that keeps their family moving forward.

"We do look forward to the court date, because then I feel like as a family, we truly can heal," said Kristi. "I look forward to it... you look forward to it being over, very much so."

Kristi and Steve mentioned every delay with the court, even the smallest motion delays, rips apart their hearts.
