Westonka coaches, former players making names in hockey world

    2024-04-08

There have been even more great accomplishments for Mound-Westonka hockey program!

Although the Minnesota High School hockey season has come to an end, honors continue to roll in for the Whitehawks and as always, hockey never stops!

Both Westonka girls hockey coach Larry Olimb and first year boys hockey coach Jeff Degree took home District 2 Coach of the Year awards.

In addition, four Whitehawks continued to advance their hockey careers post high school, competing in the USPHL National Championships in Utica, NY.

Jackson Studebaker (MWHS Class of 2021) played for the Bold City Battalion out of Jacksonville, Florida; Cooper Kantola (MWHS Class of 2022) played for the Ontario Reign from California; Hank Nagel (MWHS Class of 2018) coached the River Kings of Wisconsin; and J.J. Scherven (MWHS Class of 2024) played for the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Knights from Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to all four of them, as well as to other former White Hawks that are playing or will play in the various higher levels of hockey after high school.
