    • A man listed as a homeless Mount Airy resident was charged early Wednesday with breaking into multiple vehicles at a local business, according to city police reports.

    Michael Lee Goins Jr., 36, was located by officers on the scene at Right Way Automotive on Bluemont Road just before midnight Tuesday and found to have entered a 2010 BMW 328 owned by Angela White Goad of Cherokee Trail and a 2019 Jeep Cherokee owned by Steve Todd Lawson of Simmons Road in Pilot Mountain.

    Nothing was reported stolen from either, which were unlocked at the time.

    Goins is facing two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and also was found to be the subject of an outstanding order for arrest for failing to appear in court which had been issued on April 23.

    He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond and slated for a District Court appearance next Monday.

    • Food Lion on South Andy Griffith Parkway was the scene of a theft Tuesday, when unknown suspects took grocery items valued altogether at $44.

    • Property was discovered stolen on April 24 from a break-in at State Electric Supply Co., located in the 900 block of West Pine Street. Included was a 1.5-horsepower electric motor, a Century Motors product valued at $400, along with 40 feet of copper wire and building materials.

    • Thomas William Douglas Joyner, 40, of 1243 Brooklen Ave., was served with a warrant for a larceny charge on April 23. It stemmed from a March 28 incident in the city for which no other details were listed.

    Joyner is a free on a written promise to be in Surry District Court on June 3.
