    • A man who had been banned from all city property was charged Sunday with trespassing at locations along the Granite City Greenway, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.

    Michael Allen Griffith, 41, listed as homeless, was witnessed by officers at a picnic shelter behind the New Market Crossing shopping center, where he also tried to enter a public restroom.

    Griffith had been banned from that and all other municipal property in December 2016. He is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on June 3.

    • Kanyon Stephen White, 24, of 636 Hamburg St., was charged with carrying a concealed handgun without a permit on May 3, when he was encountered by police at a license checkpoint on South Main Street at Westfield Road.

    The gun was in White’s 2005 Ford Ranger pickup, with the case set for the June 10 District Court session.

    • Tools with a total value of $659 were discovered stolen on May 1 from a construction site at the city wastewater-treatment plant off U.S. 52-South. DeWalt products including a corded grinder, drill and impact wrench were taken along with a Ramset kit, a type of attachment device.

    The victim of the crime is listed as Brushy Mountain Builders Inc. of Lenoir.

    • Lowes Foods was the scene of a theft on May 1, when an unknown suspect stole $166 worth of miscellaneous groceries by pushing them out of the store in a shopping cart.

    • A vehicle was discovered broken into on April 29 at Mountain Place Apartments on Mountain Place Lane, where a 2015 Fiat 500 Sport owned by John Lee Edd Trexler of Embrace Lane was targeted.

    Police records indicate that a wallet was taken, with no other details listed.
