    • A Mount Airy man has been jailed under a $27,300 secured bond for allegedly assaulting a child and a felony drug violation, according to city police reports.

Sayeed Miguel Silva, 20, of 426 Worth St., was encountered at his residence on May 24 by officers who were there to serve a warrant on him for a charge of assault on a child under 12 which had been filed through the Surry County Sheriff’s Office on May 13.

During a routine search as part of the arrest procedure, methamphetamine and marijuana allegedly were found in one of Silva’s pockets, resulting in him being accused of possessing meth, a felony; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana; and possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

Silva is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Monday.

    • A woman who allegedly was peeping into hotel rooms at Hampton Inn on Rockford Street and uncooperative with officers responding to a subsequent suspicious-person call was arrested Sunday.

Jessica Linda Cook, 32, listed as a homeless Mount Airy resident, refused to remain on the scene during the investigation and attempted to walk away repeatedly, police records state.

Cook also is said to have resisted arrest physically by stiffening her arms and legs and jerking away. She was placed in handcuffs after a brief struggle.

The woman was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $3,500 secured bond and slated for a July 15 District Court appearance.

    • Lottery tickets valued at $166 were stolen from Circle K on West Pine Street on May 18 by an unknown suspect.

    • Jacob Payne Bowman, 26, of 3821 Volunteer Road, Pinnacle, was charged with driving while impaired late on the night of May 17 after a traffic crash on Worth Street near Spring Street.

Police reports indicate that Bowman was operating a 2020 Ford F-150 pickup while subject to an impairing substance other than alcohol.

He “willfully refused” to participate in a chemical breath analysis, according to arrest records, leading to a search warrant being granted to obtain a blood sample from Bowman.

The Pinnacle man was incarcerated in Dobson under a $2,500 secured bond and is facing a June 10 District Court date.
