    • A Mount Airy man was jailed last Thursday without bond on charges of hit and run involving injury and driving while impaired stemming from a traffic crash, according to city police reports.

    Jerel Cartez Bailey, 34, of 407 Pine Terrace Drive, No. 44, also is accused of driving without a license. After fleeing the scene of the wreck, the location of which was not listed, Bailey was arrested at a residence on East Haymore Street.

    The identity of the party injured in the traffic crash was not available.

    Bailey is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on July 15.

    • A counterfeit bill recently was used to obtain miscellaneous food items valued at $60 from Lowes Foods. The incident occurred on May 23, but information on the crime was not released by police until Tuesday.

    • Property valued at $1,200, including a gun, was discovered stolen on May 17 from the home of Savanna Dale Newman on Churchill Lane.

    In addition to the Smith and Wesson handgun, black in color, various clothing items said to be worth $1,000 were taken.

    • Police learned on May 17 that the Hobby Lobby store at Mayberry Mall had been the target of a larceny, which involved a sterling silver necklace with a $152 price tag being stolen by an unknown male suspect.
