    • A traffic-stop investigation last Friday led to a Mount Airy man being jailed without bond on a felony drug charge, according to city police reports.

Officers’ encounter with James Junior Evans, 50, of 1312 Grove Lane, occurred in the 2000 block of Rockford Street, where a probable-cause search of the 2020 Dodge Journey he was in turned up an unspecified illegal narcotic.

Evans was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia. He is facing an appearance in Surry District Court next Monday.

    • In what is believed to be a first in the annals of Mount Airy crime history, an unknown suspect concealed a 19-inch toilet seat at Dollar General on North Renfro Street on May 24 and attempted to leave the store without paying.

Police records indicate that the Pro Essentials toilet seat, valued at $15, was recovered, with no explanation given. No charges were reported.

    • Savannah Holly Lynn Hull, 33, of 802 Spring St., was arrested on charges of being drunk and disruptive and public consumption of alcohol after a late-night May 19 incident on Worth Street near Rockford Street.

Hull was encountered by officials responding to a suspicious-person call at that location, where she was walking in the roadway and drinking, police records state.

The woman was held in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and slated for a District Court appearance next Monday.

    • Police were told on May 16 that a known party had stolen a vehicle from CAM Motors, located on West Street off North South Street.

The 2009 Mercury Milan passenger car, valued at $1,800, is described as white in color. It was bearing North Carolina dealer license plate number ID176401, worth $20, which also was taken.

Despite the perpetrator being known, no charges had been filed at last report.
