    • A moped valued at $1,700 was discovered stolen last Sunday in Mount Airy as the result of a felonious breaking and entering, according to city police reports.

The 2022 Trailmaster Sorrento-50, blue in color, was taken from a garage at the home of Charlotte Sharp on Fairlane Drive after a cable lock was broken to gain entry.

    • Jim Terry Hairston, 52, of 1308 Grove Lane, was jailed Wednesday without privilege of bond after allegedly elbowing Tonie Lee Edwards in the face during a domestic incident, which police records indicate occurred along the street on Brooklen Avenue at Grove Lane.

Hairston was charged with assault on a female and also served with an outstanding order for arrest for failing to appear in court, which had been filed on May 29.

He is again scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Aug. 12.

    • Ethan Todd Nichols, 28, of 642 Shoals Road in Pinnacle, was jailed on charges of speed competition, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving (with the arrest report specifying “carelessly and heedlessly), possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

This occurred after a traffic stop early on the morning of May 22 on Rockford Street in the area of Dodge City Steakhouse.

After exhibiting signs of impairment during field sobriety tests, further evaluation revealed Nichols, who was operating a 2018 Ford Fusion, to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.15%, nearly twice the legal limit for getting behind the wheel.

He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond, with a July 15 District Court date set for the case.

    • A $130 chainsaw was stolen on May 21 from Ollie’s Bargain Outlet on North Main Street, where the Craftsman two-cycle, 42cc unit was taken from the store by an unknown suspect.
