    • A Mount Airy woman was arrested Monday on charges of driving while impaired and misdemeanor child abuse after a traffic crash investigation, according to city police reports.

This occurred on U.S. 52 at U.S. 601, with officers determining that Lauren McKenzie Phillips, 23, of 120 N. Summit Drive, had been operating a 2022 Jeep Gladiator pickup under the influence of an impairing substance.

Phillips subsequently consented to a blood draw and was charged with DWI and child abuse, apparently due to having a young person in the vehicle.

She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond and slated for a July 29 appearance in District Court.

    • Andrew Garnett Pittman, 21, of Winston-Salem, was charged Tuesday with hit and run/leaving the scene of a crash.

Pittman subsequently was encountered by offices at 154 N. Renfro St., but the location of the crash was not listed in police records.

The Winston-Salem man is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on July 15.

    • Apple AirPods Pro wireless in-ear headphones valued at $139 were stolen Tuesday at NCFI Polyurethanes on Carter Street, with an employee there, Helen Jean Ayers of Bryant Mill Road, Ararat, listed as the victim of the crime.

    • A larceny was discovered on June 6 at Enmar Accessories, a store in Mayberry Mall, where someone concealed a Brook Side/New Skull graphic-designed face cover and left without paying.
