    • A suspicious-vehicle investigation has led to a Mount Airy man being jailed on drug and weapons charges, including possession of psilocybin (mushrooms), according to city police reports.

    Lucas Gabriel Dunton, 31, of 1619 Creed St., was encountered by officers in the parking lot of Mill Creek General Store in the early morning hours last Wednesday.

    Dunton was found in possession of a crystal-like substance (identified as methamphetamine) in addition to the mushrooms, along with a pistol.

    He is charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, a felony, along with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and carrying a concealed weapon, listed as a Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun.

    Dunton further is accused of possessing drug paraphernalia (a glass smoking pipe), with a Mossberg .22-caliber rifle also seized by police.

    He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $7,500 secured bond and slated for an appearance in District Court next Monday.

    • W.P. Simmons Inc. on North South Street was the scene of a break-in discovered last Friday, which involved a Greenworks pressure washer and a 12-gauge, 75-foot extension cord being taken from the building while it was unoccupied.

    The stolen property is valued altogether at $261.

    • Tiffany Annette Owens, 33, of 674 Callaway Rd., was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods last Wednesday night after allegedly stealing camping supply items valued at $32 from Dollar General on North Renfro Street.

    Owens, who admitted to placing the merchandise in her purse, police records state, is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on July 22.

    • Beer was a theft target at Food Lion on South Andy Griffith Parkway, which police learned of on June 19.

    It involved a known suspect taking a 15-pack of Keystone in 12-ounce cans and Natural Light in a three-pack of 25-ounce cans, valued altogether at $15.
