Teens entering the job hunt armed with resume skills

Area teens were welcomed to Interworks in downtown Mount Airy for a teen resume workshop Tuesday to gain insight into how to build out their resume and find a job.

Morgan Johnson Vasquez, executive director of Mount Airy Downtown Inc., said she enjoyed the event that was put on in conjunction with Mount Airy Parks and Recreation and NCWorks Surry.

“We had a fantastic resume workshop for teens on Tuesday at Interworks Mount Airy. Local teens gathered to develop resumes and essential job application skills to help them get ready for the workforce and make connections with local businesses,” she said.

“By fostering the next generation of workers and supporting their job search efforts, we are investing in a vibrant and sustainable future for our downtown community.”

More than a chance to work on their job hunting skills, the teens enjoyed some free food, games, and took a tour of the Interworks co-working space. According to the organizers, they also took the teens out into the downtown community to meet some business owners.

NCWorks Surry officials said they were, “So happy to be a part of this event. This event was a true definition of’ ‘it takes a village’ with so many community organizations coming together to support our youth.”

Mount Airy Downtown Inc. offered appreciation to everyone involved. “Thank you to all of our community partners who stepped up to support this special project including Surry Community College Small Business Center, the City of Mount Airy, Surry County Economic Development Partnership, and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council.”
