    • A man who had been banned from Northern Regional Hospital the day before by security personnel was jailed on a second-degree trespassing charge after returning there Monday, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.

    Adam Gerard Burke, 26, of Denver, also was found with marijuana, leading to a charge of possessing a Schedule VI controlled substance.

    He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond and slated for an Aug. 19 appearance in District Court.

    • Edwin Eduardo Vargas-Marroquin, 25, of High Point, was charged last Saturday night with discharging a firearm in the city limits.

    Officers encountered him at a Snowhill Drive location while investigating a noise ordinance violation.

    Vargas-Marroquin is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Aug. 19.

    • The Dollar General store on North Renfro Street was the scene of a larceny on July 4, which targeted a Trueliving wire-mesh table and Kingsford charcoal with a total value of $29, which had been displayed in front of the business.

    Two unknown suspects were involved.

    • Anthony Elijah Brown, 20, of 320 Eleanor Ave., was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), a felony, stemming from a suspicious-person investigation at Walmart on July 3.

    Brown also was found to be the subject of an outstanding arrest order for two counts of failing to appear in court which had been filed in Surry County on June 13 and a separate warrant for arrest issued on May 29.

    He additionally was charged on July 3 with resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, listed as a clear glass smoking device.

    Brown was incarcerated under a $6,000 secured bond and is facing a Monday court appearance.
