    • A man fired from a local business Sunday who refused to leave afterward was charged with second-degree trespassing, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports.

Markus Zachary Stone, 24, of 288 Maple Drive, was encountered by officers responding to a civil disturbance at Pizza Hut, which he refused to leave after being terminated.

When police arrived on the scene, Stone still refused to depart despite being told to do so by Lt. B.B. Evans and was charged.

He is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Aug. 19.

    • Leslie Brooke Parkes, 42, of 279 Lori Lane, was arrested last Friday as a fugitive from justice after she was encountered by police at Aunt Bea’s BBQ in reference to a welfare check.

An investigation revealed Parkes to be wanted in Carroll County, Virginia, on an unspecified matter.

She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and slated for an Aug. 19 District Court appearance in Dobson.

    • Felony charges have been filed against a second suspect stemming from a recent check-forgery case that victimized Carter Bank and Trust.

Dustin Zachary Hull, 35, of 498 Creed St., is accused of eight felonies, including three counts of conspiracy, three counts of uttering a forged instrument and two counts of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense.

Police learned on June 6 that a known suspect had obtained an undisclosed sum of money by depositing forged checks at the bank on Willow Street. Checks from First Community and Skyline National banks were involved.

This initially led to felony charges against Nicholas Cody Hull, 33, a homeless Mount Airy resident, on June 27, including three counts of uttering a forged instrument and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

It is not known if the two Hulls are related.

Dustin Zachary Hull was incarcerated under a $7,500 secured bond after his arrest at his home on July 3, and faces an Aug. 1 appearance in District Court.

    • Lowes Foods was the scene of a theft on July 1, when a known suspect took miscellaneous grocery items valued at $104.

Despite a known individual being involved, no charges had been filed at last report.
