Creston police report pair of early Monday morning drug arrests
(Creston) -- A pair of Creston suspects face drug charges following their arrests in separate incidents early Monday morning. The Creston Police Department says 44-year-old Ronnee Colleen Abel of Creston was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. for possession of a controlled substance, non-marijuana, 3rd offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities say the arrest occurred in the 500 block of West Adams Street.
Work at softball field begins
GRANT CITY, Mo. — Work at the softball field is underway in Grant City. In May, the Worth County R-III school board voted to have the district purchase new lighting for a 200-foot softball field. However, as the current field is larger than that, the outfield fence is being brought in to 200 feet.
Woodbury family members seriously injured in fatal rollover crash in Missouri
Three members of a Woodbury family were seriously injured and a Kansas man died Sunday evening after a one-car rollover crash in Missouri. Karam Bedros, 65, of Woodbury, was driving a 2012 Kia Sorento north on Interstate 35, 7 miles north of Eagleville, Mo., around 5 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle traveled off the west side of the road and struck an emergency median crossover, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports.
Creston Police report - July 22, 2024
Mark T. Bregar, 24, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:49 a.m. July 20, on Cherry and Townline streets for the charge of driving while barred. According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 12:25 a.m. officers stopped a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Bregar. Bregar admitted to not having a valid license and was discovered to be barred.

It’s always frustrating to watch a trademark dispute occur when the marks in question are non-distinctive or generic in nature. Now, I want to be careful here, because the trademark in question here is one that has been applied in a way slightly different than the generic use of the term is typically used. An analog of sorts might be “apple.” Used in the foodstuffs business, that is obviously a term that would not be trademarkable. Used in the computer industry, on the other hand, makes the use valid for trademark purposes.
Parnell gathers for duck race, festival
The Parnell Duck Race and Festival took place on July 13-14, and included a wide array of activities and events. The grand marshals of the parade were Steve and Joni Mullock. The theme for this year’s parade was Watermelon Crawl “A Slice of Summer.”

The Creston (IA) Police Department reports three recent arrests:. 7-22-2024 2:15pm: Zackary Charles Huddleson, 33, Afton was arrested at the Creston Union County LEC. Huddleson was charged on a Union County Warrant for Assault causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness. Huddleson was taken to the Union County Jail where he was later released on $1000 cash or surety bond.

Helicopter Crash In Benton Township
Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to South Galena Road in Benton Township for a helicopter crash. The helicopter struck a power line causing it to crash into a nearby field. The pilot, 40year old Loren Friedle of Smyrna, Georgia was the lone occupant of the helicopter and reported no injuries. Benton First Response, Cuba City Fire, Southwest Health EMS, the National Transportation Safety Board and Alliant Energy assisted.

Joellen “Jo” Eileen (Montgomery) Ehm, 90, of Creston, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving children. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Rusk officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m., July 26, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center of Creston is in charge of arrangements.
Five Panthers earn all-conference softball honors
After a 20-16 regular season with a 17-3 Hawkeye 10 record, the Panthers placed second in the conference and five athletes earned all-conference honors. Junior Ava Adamson earned a spot on first team all-conference for the second year in a row. She was recognized for her efforts as catcher and shortstop.

Monday as the Panthers fell in postseason baseball to Harlan, a year of athletics came to a close. I first started covering Southwest Iowa sports in the fall of 2022 when I followed the Lenox Tigers as they made their run for the Dome. They were knocked out in semifinals play, but it was an exciting season.
