Two Calhoun school employees indicted for alleged inappropriate relations with students
CALHOUN, Ga. — Two former Calhoun City School District employees have been indicted for allegedly having inappropriate relations with students. According to court documents, Railey Greeson was indicted Thursday on two counts of sexual contact by employee or agent in the first degree for having sex with two different male students between October 2021 and January 2022. Brooklyn Shuler was indicted on one count of the same charge for having sex with a different male student between October 2021 and January 2022.
Two arrested after traffic stop in Cherokee County sparks chase, ends in Georgia
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in Cherokee County led to a chase that ended in Georgia Monday. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said 43-year-old Waylon Dale Epps, of Gaylesville, and 34-year-old Ashley Sheree Spivey, of Armuchee, face multiple charges following the incident.

Police arrested 14 people in a multi-agency investigation targeting sex traffickers and sex buyers in Northwest Georgia. The GBI’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit (HEAT), the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations & Criminal Investigation Division, the Cartersville Police Department, the Polk County Police Department, and the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the operation. Rome Finance Committee Recommends Slight Tax Rate Reduction
The Rome Finance Committee recommended a slight reduction in the city’s overall millage rate during a called meeting Tuesday morning. City Manager Sammy Rich and Finance Director Toni Rhinehart spoke to commissioners and presented two scenarios: leave the tax rate the same or adopt a slight reduction. “Inflation is very real right now,” Mayor Craig McDaniel said. “Everything is more expensive and we know our citizens are feeling the pinch.” ...
Summerville Recreation 8U Boys and Girls Win State Championships
The Summerville Recreation 8U Boys Baseball and 8U Girls Softball teams both won the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) State Championship tournaments in Whitfield County, Georgia on Thursday, June 27th. The girls went undefeated in the tournament (4-0), and the boys finished (5-1). Parks and Recreation Director Bo Chamlee said, “I don’t ever recall two Summerville teams winning State Championships in the same year. Dead Fish being reported in Chattooga River after Ammonia Spill
An ammonia spill at Mount Vernon Mills, located in Trion, Georgia, forced evacuations of nearby residents on June 26th. Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas stated the source of that leak was a transfer truck that was bringing ammonia to the mill. The truck driver went through protocol for a spill – and called Chattooga 9-1-1. Exactly how that spill occurred was NOT made clear immediately.
