Lacem’ Up Shoe Drive seeks donations
The Lacem’ Up Shoe Drive is helping students put their best foot forward this school year. “Last year, we provided shoes for over 500 youth,” said Ashley Rogers, founder of the Lacem’ Up Shoe Drive and Shoe Shop. “With our overflow, we were able to provide shoes for parents, our homeless community and social workers at our local schools. Our registration is closed as of now. We have over 600 kids registered for this year.

Oostanaula School Community Club, 1595 Oostanaula Bend Road, will host its Fresh Picking Event Saturday, July 20, with a homecooked dinner at 5 p.m. Plates including two meat choices, all-you-can-eat fresh picked garden vegetables, dessert, and a drink are $10 for adults, and $5 for kids under 12. Tony Lamar Pritchett
MR. TONY LAMAR PRITCHETT- Age 65, of Cartersville, Georgia and formally of Kingston, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Mr. Pritchett was born March 12, 1959 to the late Solomon Pritchett, Sr. and Hattie Mae Barton Pritchett. He was preceded by his two sisters, Lila Jean Pasley Elliott Carter, Joanne Pritchett, and nine brothers, John Henry Pasley, Jal Bob Pritchett, Billy Earl Pritchett, Homer Dean Pritchett, Solomon Pritchett, Jr., Calvin Lee Pritchett, James Paul Pritchett, Melvin Pritchett, and Odell Pritchett. He was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, and he was a United States Army Veteran.
Clear Bag Policy to be in place for CHS athletic events this year
To maintain a safe and secure environment, only clear bags will be permitted at home venues for the Hurricanes this school year. The clear bag policy specifies bags no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Permitted items include cameras and binoculars (without the case), clutch bags no larger than 5″ x 9″, infant feeding supplies, and empty plastic water bottles. Medical exceptions should be addressed with school administration prior to the start of the event and are subject to search.

Cedar Bluff to honor 65th anniversary of 1959 football state championship team in September
CEDAR BLUFF – Sixty-five years ago this fall, the 1959 Cedar Bluff football team outscored its opponents 400-19 en route to the school’s first 10-0 season. That year, head coach L.D. Bruce’s Tigers were named Class 1A District 3 state champions by The Birmingham News. There were no high school football playoffs at the time. Newspaper polls determined state championships and the sportswriters voted Bruce’s team the best in 1959.
