Ms. Mary Jordan Walden
She was born in Centre in 1934 to Herman and Virginia Jordan. Mary attended Auburn University and Jacksonville State University before working as a social worker in Gadsden then running Jordan Insurance Company for many years. Mary enjoyed spending her time cheering on the Auburn Tigers, taking care of her dachshund pets, preparing her classic Southern recipes and meals, hosting family and friends and picking blueberries in her yard. As a proud northeast Alabama native, Mary gave back to her community and church. Her final years were spent at The Oaks Assisted Living in Carrollton, Georgia where she spent time with her daughter and family.

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Head Coach Matthew Richter has announced the addition of four new players for the 2024-2025 season. From McDonough, Georgia, he is the son of Gloria and brother of Divine. King is majoring in Marketing and his superstition is to make a cross on his body before each game. Outside of basketball he enjoys fashion, entrepreneurship, and music. His favorite superhero is Spiderman. The Union Grove graduate wa a Summa Cum Laude grad who was an honor roll student. He graduated in the top ten percent of his class and was a member of the National Honors Society and Future Business Leaders of America. On the court his senior year he accumulate the Vincent J. Dooley Award, Henry County Male Athlete of the Year nominee, Team MVP, 5-AAAAA All-Region Second Team, and was the School Slam Dunk Champion. The team captain was a three year top 100 in the Class of 2024 selection and an All-Region honorable mention. King helped lead his team to the programs furthest playoff run his junior season.

Alabama executes man convicted of killing delivery driver during a 1998 robbery attempt
ATMORE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man has been executed for the fatal shooting of a delivery driver during a 1998 robbery attempt. Sixty-four-year-old Keith Edmund Gavin received a chemical injection Thursday evening at a prison in southwest Alabama. Gavin was convicted of capital murder in the March 6, 1998, shooting death of William Clayton Jr. in the city of Centre. Prosecutors said Clayton had stopped for cash at an ATM to take his wife to dinner when he was targeted. It was the third execution in Alabama this year and came shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Gavin’s own handwritten request to block it from going forward.
