Frances Crawford Whitmire
CEDAR BLUFF, ALABAMA - Frances Crawford Whitmire, 83, Cedar Bluff, Alabama, entered rest Sunday, July 14, 2024. Mrs. Whitmire was born in Felton, the daughter of the late Tince Crawford and the late Willie Beatrice Tinsley Crawford Berry; and the daughter-in-law of the late Annie Samples Whitmire and the late Eddie Omer “Whit” Whitmire Sr. of Jefferson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Omer “E.O.” Whitmire Jr.
Carpet Capital Chapter of the Berry College Alumni Association to meet
Residents of the Murray-Whitfield counties area began finding their way to Berry College near Rome in its earliest years and that attachment continues today. Local attendees of the various Berry schools reactivated a dormant alumni group almost four decades ago and regularly meet to advance the work Miss Berry began.
Entrepreneur Seeks Degree At GNTC
A Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) student is studying Business Technology more than 20 years after receiving her High School Equivalency through GNTC. Amanda Chadwell, 42, was born in Florida and moved to Georgia when she was 11. Family circumstances led her to drop out of high school. Chadwell, then an 18-year-old mother-to-be enrolled at GNTC’s Walker County Campus in Rock Spring to earn her High School Equivalency, has just completed her first semester as a returning student at the Polk County Campus in Rockmart and expects to graduate with her associate degree next year.

Rome City Schools is switching from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus for their student information system and all students will be required to register for school this year by filling out a paper registration packet.
