Robert “Bo” J Behrens
Robert “Bo” J Behrens, (1940-2024). Robert age 83 of Bellevue passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Luther Manor Care Center in Dubuque. No Public serves were conducted per Bo’s wishes. Robert was born July 17, 1940, the son of Frank and Alma (Clausen) Behrens. He graduated from Preston High School in 1958 and then started working for the Pontiac Dealership in Preston. Robert married Shirley Smith on May 28, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Maquoketa. He then worked 26 years at the Preston Schools as a custodian until retiring. Robert was an avid basketball and sports fan. He was a silver smith, enjoined fishing, hunting, tending purple martins in his yard, carpenter work, and spending time with family and friends. Robert enjoyed many years of Hawkeye football games with his brothers, and he and Shirley enjoyed many winters together in Arizona with family.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Polo Applies for OSLED Grant for Playground at West Side Park
POLO -The City of Polo held a special meeting Monday night to approve applying for the next round of Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grants. The OSLED Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources would help get a new playground installed at West Side Park. At the Polo City Council meeting earlier this month, the proposal from Cunningham Recreation out of North Carolina was presented. A total of $54 million will be available to communities across the state, with the IDNR providing 100% of the funding for approved projects in economically distressed areas. The playground, consisting of multiple interactive features, was estimated to cost around $500,000. OSLAD has awarded more than $585 million for park projects throughout Illinois since its inception. The program is funded through a percentage of Illinois' Real Estate Transfer Tax.
