Sheriff: Abingdon man dead after ATV accident
DICKENSON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an Abingdon man was killed after an overnight ATV accident. Virginia sportsbooks had an 11% hold in June, good enough for $45.5 million in sports betting revenue
Recently, the Virginia Lottery reported $45.5 million in gross sports betting revenue in June. That was the third consecutive month that operators had a double-digit hold. Additionally, their win rate narrowly missed 11% for the third time this year. Operator winnings surged 39.3% compared to their numbers in 2023. Virginia became the 10th state to clear $3 billion in accepted wagers this year. They also became the ninth state to surpass an all-time handle of $17 billion. Their total betting handle was 17.8% compared to the $505.6 million in May. Revenue only dipped nine-tenths of a percentage point in June.

The Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is thrilled to announce its inclusion as a member of the African American Civil Rights Network (AACRN), a program of the National Park Service (NPS). AACRN tells the stories of the men and women whose bravery and sacrifices shaped the Civil Rights movement throughout American history and still impact our country today. BHMVA is one of only two sites in the Commonwealth of Virginia to receive this important designation, and its selection is a testament to the museum’s role in preserving and promoting Black history and culture and playing a critical role in telling these stories.
Good loses congressional seat following primary recount
