(WJET/WFXP)– A McKean County man faces numerous charges after state police said he collected money for a contracted job he never finished. Troopers from PSP Lewis were called to a home along McCrea Brooke Rd. on July 2 for the alleged theft with the victim saying they hired the contractor for a job on April 23 and supplied a downpayment.

State police have released the names of those involved in the fatal crash on Thursday afternoon in the Town of Owego. Police say a group of motorcycles was attempting to merge onto SR 17 from the Exit 66 on-ramp. Police say a tractor-trailer was already on 17 when one of the motorcycles collided with the tractor-trailer.

Man Arrested After Attempted Theft at Allegany Walmart
(WNY News Now) – Allegany – A Portville man, Justin T. Hellmer, 36, faces charges of Petit Larceny following an incident at Walmart in Allegany, NY. Justin T. Hellmer was apprehended by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office on July 15, 2024, at approximately 12:30 PM. He was reportedly caught attempting to leave Walmart on Plaza Dr with unpaid items. The arrest followed an investigation into the incident. Hellmer was subsequently released on an appearance ticket and is slated for arraignment in the near future. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Updated: Troopers investigate fatal crash in Owego
On July 18, 2024, shortly after 1 p.m., New York State Police were dispatched to State Route 17 east near exit 66 in the town of Owego for a serious crash. An investigation determined that a large group of motorcycles was merging onto State Route 17 east from the exit 66 on ramp. According to police, a tractor-trailer was already on State Route 17 when one of the motorcycles collided with the tractor-trailer.
St Marys Resident Under Federal Indictment in Gun Running Case
A St. Marys resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie for violating federal firearms laws. 44-year-old Gary James Murray was indicted on 3 counts that were unsealed on Monday, following his arrest. Murray is accused of conspiring with individuals in Canada from October of 2022 to April of this year, to conceal and ship Glock pistols to Canada without the required license, and contrary to exportation regulations. The firearms he allegedly smuggled across the border were prohibited weapons in Canada.
Sheffield Track Hosts Annual Youth Camp
SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Sheffield Wolverines Track & Field Team hosted its annual Youth Track & Field Summer Camp from July 9 – 11, concluding with a meet on July 11. Nearly 60 Kindergarten through 7th graders from across Warren County attended the camp. Thursday’s meet consisted of the shot put throw, long jump, and a 50-meter dash for the younger participants and a 100-meter dash for the older kids. All participants received a certificate with their personal bests from the camp, but the real prize of the competition was at the completion of the meet.

Olean is seeking a study for wastewater discharge mitigation starting next week. Mayor Bill Aiello said that the city’s Department of Public Works will issue a request for proposals for an engineering study of the city’s wastewater collection system after multiple overflows into the Allegheny River in recent years resulting in a looming lawsuit from the Seneca Nation of Indians.

OLEAN — Some local firms and nonprofits were affected by a global outage related to antivirus software on Friday, but most were unaffected. Early Friday morning, the Associated Press reports, a software update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike affected customers' computers running Microsoft Windows, the most popular operating system worldwide. The outage affected systems nationwide and globally, ranging from delayed border crossings and airline flights to health care facilities returning to paper-based operations and 911 service being down in some states.
