Southern Tier Leadership Summit set for Aug. 1
OLEAN — Registration for the Southern Tier Leadership Summit is rolling out this week. This year’s summit is set for Aug. 1 at the Cattaraugus County Campus of Jamestown Community College. The full-day summit focuses on employee engagement and strategies for attracting and retaining top talent. The conference is hosted by Leadership Allegany, the Chautauqua Leadership Network, and Leadership Cattaraugus.

Police reports 7/9/24
Sunday, 11:09 p.m., Christina K. Cobb, 39, no permanent address, was arrested on a bench warrant issued out of Olean City Court. Cobb was held pending arraignment. Monday, 12:34 a.m., Steven M. Gaddy, 42, of 309 S. Berry St., was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. Gaddy was released with an appearance ticket.

Frances Decker
Frances Arlene Decker, 98, formerly of Russell, PA, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility, Lakewood, NY. Frances was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Lander, PA, the oldest of 12 children to the late Ralph and Mabel Arnold Shaffer. She graduated from Lander High School and then went to Lab Technician School in Jamestown NY. She was employed as a lab technician at Jamestown Hospital and then worked at WCA Hospital. She married Gail “Jack” Decker on Oct. 13, 1950. They were married for 51 years, until Jack passed in June 2002. After her marriage Frances joined her husband as a partner in Decker’s Garage, a School Bus Company contracting to the Northern Area Schools, and later to the Warren County School District. Frances was active in the business as an office manager/ bookkeeper, trainer and also a School Bus driver. She retired after 34 years when the business was sold to their son, Michael.
Eric T. Gentz
Eric T. Gentz, 42, of Youngsville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Warren, PA. Eric was born in Warren, PA on Sept. 23, 1981, to the late Thomas R. Gentz and Trudy Kysor, who survives him. Eric graduated from Youngsville High School in 2000. Following graduation, he worked for Roger Luvison & Son Construction where he was a machine operator, laborer, truck driver, and many other roles. Recently, he was in the process of starting his own construction business. Eric enjoyed the outdoors, especially kayaking and fishing with Aly, and RC cars and planes. His daughter, Alyssa, was his pride and joy, and he could be seen on the sidelines of every sporting event she participated in. He was a Buffalo Bills fan. Eric always had a smile on his face and was happy to help anyone who needed it, never wanting or expecting anything in return. Eric’s family and friends were very important to him, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
