(WNY News Now) – Olean – Significant traffic delays are expected on East State Street in Olean as the Walkable Olean Phase III construction project progresses. Construction continues on East State Street from Front Street to North Union Street. Work at the Barry Street intersection will begin July 22nd. There will be significant traffic delays as it will be down to one lane traffic at times, detours will be in place through the completion of the project. Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Genesee Rapids
HOUGHTON, NY — The Olean Oilers swept a doubleheader against the Genesee Rapids Wednesday. Back-to-back four-run innings propelled the Oilers to a 9-7 win in Game 1. The Oilers loaded the bases early in both the fifth and sixth innings. Two infield singles, a walk and a hit batter brought four runs to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth. The Rapids retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning by scoring one run. The Oilers again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning, and right fielder Michael Norton hit his first grand slam of the season.

Fate of local Big Lots stores unknown amid retailers’ struggles
Big Lots plans to close between 35 and 40 stores this year, according to a June filing with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC filing doesn’t include a list of store closings, and Big Lots hasn’t announced any closings yet. No one knows what the news means for Big Lots locations in Jamestown, Warren and Dunkirk. The filing is an indication of further contraction in Big Lots’ corporate footprint after the retailer closed 53 stores in 2023. The company currently has 1,392 stores nationwide.
